The Operations Centre was designed specifically for Rio Tinto to enable their cutting edge communication, visualization and collaboration tools used to remotely operate the trains from the mines in the Pilbara, WA.
The building is constructed using concrete tilt panels to achieve a cost effective, speedy construction. Steel columns discretely positioned hold up steel trusses that span over 27m to provide an open plan area with uninterrupted views of the main operation monitor. Two deep concrete trenches partially submerged in ground water provided a service duct under the main floor area between the back of house and operations room.
