Subiaco Oval Redevelopment
Subiaco

Subiaco Oval Redevelopment carried out by BPA Engineering was carried out over three stages.

The first stage completed in 1995 was a $15 million construction of stands along the Southern side of the ground.

The second stage saw the addition of the light towers which allowed televised coverage of the night games.

The third stage was the $35 million dollar development to the Eastern Stands, associated team training and administration facilities.

The third stage of the redevelopment is a very good example of the team’s ability to provide a product on budget. One of the big risks identified very early was the fact that programming of the project would only allow a 4 week tender period. This was not sufficient for a project of the scope and complexity of this. There was a high risk that tenders would be uncompetitive as builders would add in contingency dollars to cover everything.

The BPA Engineering team participated in briefing a select group of builders 30% of the way through the design. The BPA team built innovation into the structures, which allowed flexibility for a range of alternative, approaches from the builders. The very short tender period (4 weeks) meant the builders had 2/3 of the documentation period plus the four week tender period to apply serious resources to the project
