The heritage-listed 1910 Midland Railway was converted into a “building within a building” providing an exciting state of the art modern office complex for the WA Police State Traffic Operations. The new three storey office architectural design had unusual sloping fascades and the floor to floor heights were severely restricted by the external envelope.
The structural systems selected by BPA Engineering provided a thin floor structural element, unimpeded by beams to allow free access for mechanical ventilations, within the tight spaces.
There was a lot of work done with the builder to look at construction methodologies as the stability of the structure relied on diaphragm action in the floors to braced end walls.
