RoleStructural design engineers for the buildings and machinery foundations, including vibration analysis. |
The project called for the housing of a waste paper fibre recovery plant and a machine producing newsprint quality grade paper. The machine operates at speeds of 120 kilometres per hour. The site was a GREENFIELDS site in Mentakab, a town strategically located in central Malaysia.
This project was a multi-national project involving machinery from Heidenheim and Ravensburg in Germany, crane suppliers and electrical equipment from Singapore and HVAC equipment suppliers from Canada.
Project Data: The Main Machine Hall and the Fibre Recovery Building are 270 metres long by 75 metres wide and 4 storeys high. The machine foundations had very tight settlement tolerances (less than 4 mm).
The buildings house numerous heavy-duty gantry cranes (80 tonnes SWL). These had various functions including maintenance of machines and movement of paper rolls. Tight deflection tolerances were specified to 1/2000
Vibration analysis of the entire structural frame was conducted to ensure resonance did not impair the performance of the machinery.
